Treatment simulation with a CT and/or MR scan is the first step in creating a treatment plan. This allows a radiation oncologist to delineate a tumor’s volume in relation to the surrounding healthy tissue. Certificate In Radiation Therapy
The Florida Department of Education has discontinued the Radiation Therapy 6228 Technical Certificate. ARRT licensed professionals can seek Radiation Therapy education and licensure through the Associate of Science degree program.
A requirement of the Radiation Therapy 2159 A.S. Degree is CHM1032 and the Civic Literacy AMH2020 or POS2041.
These courses must be completed in addition to the Radiation Therapy courses to satisfy graduation requirements.

Radiation therapists deliver prescribed doses of radiation to patients for therapeutic purposes. We train you on the proper procedures with a mix of on-campus courses and clinical education in area hospitals.
All didactic and laboratory courses are taught in building 41 on the North Campus in Coconut Creek, Florida. Clinical courses are located in hospitals and Cancer Centers throughout Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, and Martin Counties. You may have to drive up to one hour from their home to attend clinical courses. You will rotate through three to four different hospitals over the length of the program.
Prerequisite and general education courses may be taken at any Broward College campus or online if available.

The Radiation Therapy Program at Broward College is accredited through the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology . Lastly, you will be able to identify and administer treatment protocols, perform tumor localization through the use of diagnostic radiographs and computed tomography , and calculate dosimetry formulas used to plan patient radiation doses.

This includes completion of the Radiation Therapy Didactic and Clinical Competency Requirements set forth by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists within an accredited program.
Many four-year universities and colleges offer degrees that fulfill these requirements in the course of study. For that reason, many choose to pursue inclusive bachelorâs degrees. However, a radiation therapist does not necessarily have to possess a bachelorâs degree in radiation therapy or radiography instead, those pursuing a career in radiation therapy may obtain an associateâs degree from an accredited institution, which may, in fact, be a community or technical college. The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology is currently the sole agency recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation and the US Department of Education for the accreditation of radiation therapy programs.
While an individual who meets these standards is not guaranteed a position as a radiation therapist, fulfilling these requirements is necessary in order to obtain certification.
